Yesterday I traded in my Jetta for a 2012 VW Tiguan SEL 4Motion. So far, I love it. It is a little bit different getting use to a gasoline engine again after having a diesel for a couple of years. I am excited to drive it to southern Minnesota this weekend. Click on the images for a larger view.

Last night we had our 2011 soup party. There was even more of a turnout this year. Other than being a little crowded, it was a ton of fun. All the more reason to get the basement done so we have more room to entertain. There were 15 soups that competed and three winners. This year’s winners were the Broccoli Cheese Wild Rice Soup, Squash, and Taco Soup. For the sake of privacy and safety (from one pissed off guest that didn’t win
) I will not post the names of the winners. I have the recipes for some of the soups posted here, and there will be more to coming within the next few days. Thanks to everyone that came last night, making a soup, and lugging it over in a crock pot. We have a ton of fun doing this party and look forward to it every year.

A few months ago I was having a conversation with some of the developers on my team because I was frustrated that some previous developers commented out code instead of deleting it even though they had source control. It was so ridiculous to the point where 30% of the classes were commented out. My co-worker made a comment that some of the previous developers were hoarders of code similar to the TV show Hoarders. I then questioned when we would find the dead cat in the code since more often than not dead cats are found on the TV show. So yesterday when I was going through some code, about a month after our conversation, I found this lovely commented out code! I calmly informed my co-workers that I actually found a dead cat. The look on the people’s faces that were not part of the earlier conversation was priceless.

Today will be one week since my grandpa passed away. I miss him a ton but am thankful that he is no longer in pain. Here were some photos I found of us this weekend when I was younger.
